Why Plan Your Honeymoon With Mill?

Not too long ago, 2 years back in 2023, I was finishing up planning my wedding to my sweetheart (and now a very supportive business partner). For months we were planning on doing a road trip across California – lots of driving a rental car and stops to see different tourist attractions in cities like San Francisco and San Diego. In theory, it seemed like a great idea. But about a month before the wedding day, my dad suggested that our honeymoon should be more relaxing like a cruise. With only a 3 day weekend for our wedding and not much time off on my then teacher schedule, I booked the Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas for the first week of July 2023.

From early May up until the departure day on July 2, I did all the planning for this 4 day cruise. Questions came up like how to book an excursion or how to choose a meal time or what is the best time for boarding the ship, just to name a few. When it came to choosing excursions, I didn’t even know where to start looking at all the options on the Royal Caribbean website – two stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island Perfect Day at Cocoa Cay and Nassau (Bahamas) with only two months to plan a big trip.

Oh my goodness, what do I do?! I was in over my head with so many questions. This is when I wish I knew how to find a travel agent. Looking for one on the Royal Caribbean website, the only travel agent I could find was at a local AAA office. There was one travel agent based out of this AAA Northeast local office, but her hours were always when I was at work so that wasn’t an option. I had no idea how to plan a cruise, and I needed help!

Of course, this was very last minute. Now, as a travel agent myself, I know that it is better to book a honeymoon at least 6 months before the travel date. But I was a clueless bride not knowing where to even start with booking a honeymoon.

As a bride or an engaged couple in the midst of the craziness that is wedding planning, a honeymoon is the last thing on your mind. But after the big day, you need to get away with your sweetheart. Jump in that car or on that plane and celebrate starting your new life together. Speaking from experience, there are a couple ways to do this:

  1. Do a 1-2 night “mini moon” getaway the day after your wedding and do a longer honeymoon trip at a later date perhaps a few months after the wedding day
  2. The day or couple days after your wedding day, get in a car or plane and go off for your big honeymoon trip

Don’t know which is a better option – doing the honeymoon right away or at a later date? Don’t know where you want to go for your big vacation? Or maybe you have a few ideas on a dream destination, but just don’t have time to plan a trip?

That’s where I come in – your trusty little travel advisor Peggy Mill! Since 2022, I have planned trips to Disney World, Ireland, Hershey PA, and the Von Trapp Lodge. At least 2 times a year, Making Memories With Mill has a table at a bridal show meeting new brides – young princesses just too overwhelmed to plan a vacation. With years of experience traveling the world, I’m always looking to connect with engaged couples looking to relax after the big day.
